About Juozas Cernius
Juozas Cernius is a Canadian photographer and video director based in Nairobi, Kenya. Born and raised in London, Ontario, Canada, Cernius has been an artist since childhood, drawing and painting at any opportunity. Following his inclination for creative pursuits, Juozas enrolled in the Studio Arts program at Concordia University in Montreal, graduating with a BFA, and thereafter received an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
After his creative studies, he moved to New York City where he soon developed a fascination with the diversity of cultures represented there. Photography quickly became his creative tool of choice, and ever since, his passion for visual storytelling has only expanded. To date, as an artist, documentarian, photographer, and video producer, he’s traveled over 35 countries globally.
In New York City, he worked as a freelance commercial photographer for several years, where his photographs appeared as advertisements and editorial content in numerous international publications, including Architectural Digest, Elle Decor and Wallpaper* Magazine, amongst others.
He has contributed numerous photo essays to AFC, Paddy Johnsons well known New York based blog about contemporary art. Juozas has also exhibited artwork in the United States (venues including the Dumbo Art Center in Brooklyn, the Central Utah Art Center, and Denise Bibro Gallery in New York) as well as in Canada (with a solo exhibition at Articule Gallery in Montreal). His artwork is held in many private collections internationally.
He is motivated to contribute his imagination, international experience and strong professional ethic to elevate the work of people making a positive change in the world. Juozas frequently partners with dynamic organizations, invigorating their corporate communications.
With understanding of large concepts and attention to small details, he comes to each of his endeavours with dedication, originality and enthusiasm. Juozas has published a book of photographs about a personal and artistic view of Africa, with texts by Anita Vizsy.
Cernius is also an accomplished videographer, cinematographer, director, and editor, having produced dozens of video features for a wide range of clients.
Cernius considers himself lucky to do the kind of work that is both personally rewarding and useful for his clients. He never wants to stop pursuing the magic at the far reaches of the human experience.
